Big 5 Game Safari To The Well Known Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Game Park:
Go on safari to the Hluhluwe/Umfolozi Park only 30kms away. This game reserve , being over a 100years old , is the oldest declared game reserve in Africa. It is well known for its successful program to save the once endangered White Rhino and is now in the forefront of the program to also save the now endangered Black Rhino.
The Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game reserve was established in 1895 and is the oldest park in Africa. It is set in very beautiful part of Zululand about 250 km up the coast from Durban. It was originally two separate parks but in 1989 they joined the park into one. The whole area is now 96 000 ha (237 000 acres). There is still a public road and a “corridor” that cuts straight through. As the home of "Operation Rhino" in the 1950s and 60s, the Park became world renowned for its White Rhino conservation. The Park is home to about 2400 White and Black Rhino.
The threat of Rhino poaching is now higher than it has ever been since the mid 1990s, and in recent months, a number of rhinos have been poached in KwaZulu Natal. The trends indicate a significant global increase in the demand for rhino horn, and rhino protection is currently given top priority in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.
